For our rapidly expanding team in Europe, we are looking for a 

Campaigner (f/m/d) – Trophy Hunting 

(Fulltime/Parttime, remote) 

Humane Society International (HSI) is looking for a campaigner to develop and implement our European campaign on Trophy Hunting in Germany.  

Hundreds of thousands of wild mammals, including endangered or threatened species, are slain by trophy hunters each year. German hunters import hundreds of trophies each year, which makes Germany one of the major importers in the EU. HSI works to raise public awareness regarding this issue, improving legal protections and encouraging alternative action. 

The trophy hunting campaign in Germany will consist of lobby activities, public and media engagement, and activities in the direction of companies and other stakeholders. The campaign will be carried out in five EU countries. 

The position of the Campaigner in Germany reports to the HSI Country Director in Germany and the Trophy Hunting Campaign Lead for Europe and is under the functional guidance of the Wildlife program department at HSI’s global headquarters in Washington, DC.  

This role is an excellent and unique opportunity to deliver a high-profile campaign that will have a strong impact on the lives of animals and the protection of their natural habitats.  

The position is offered on a 6-month consultancy contract. Extension after this period is possible. (The campaign is expected to last for approximately two years.) 

Essential duties and responsibilities  

  • Develop a campaign strategy focusing on different stakeholders in close consultation with the country director and the HSI Trophy Hunting Team in the EU and US.  
  • Coordinate the execution of the trophy hunting campaign in Germany. 
  • Research and summarize relevant, often scientific, information and transform into materials for target audiences. 
  • Work closely with an intercultural team in the EU and the US.  
  • Engage with relevant stakeholders, politicians, journalists, scientists and expand the existing network.  
  • Develop engagement concepts and events (on-/offline) for relevant stakeholders.  
  • Monitor progress and adjust plans and activities when necessary. 

Education and experience 

  • Campaigning experience, desirably on animal welfare issues.  
  • Specific experience in campaigns aimed at influencing legislation is a plus. 

Necessary knowledge, skills and abilities 

  • Affinity with the issue. 
  • Ability to translate strategic campaign goals into effective action plans and transform messages addressing different target audiences.  
  • Experience with campaign execution for several channels. (on/-offline) 
  • Strong affinity for new media and new trends. 
  • Familiar with the mobilization of audiences & supporters. 
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and project management skills. 
  • Ability to engage with and elevate access to stakeholders, journalists, politicians, scientists.  
  • Outstanding verbal and written skills in German.   
  • Fluency in English is required. 
  • Willing and able to travel.
