The Global Climate Forum (GCF) is a non-profit research institute based in Berlin. GCF brings together representatives of different parties concerned with climate change and sustainable development in order to carry out joint studies that provide arguments for climate mitigation and adaptation policies leading ultimately towards a sustainable development path.
GCF collaborates in various national and international research efforts such as the “Center of Excellence for Global Systems Science” (CoeGSS, funded by the European Commission) and the “System integration Kopernikus project: Energiewende navigation system” (ENavi, funded by the German Ministry of Science and Education).
GCF’s current study in ENavi deals with the influences of the digitalization on the mobility sector and the potential positive benefits regarding the transformation towards low-carbon transportation. Therefore, GCF is currently developing an agent-based computer simulation tool to model the transition of the German mobility sector for passenger traffic embedded in the global market. It is used to enhance the scientific view on the global transition and at the same time as a dialog tool for and with stakeholders of related sectors, political decision makers and the civil society.
